Christian retreats and camps offer great facilities for those wishing to vacation with a purpose, do a service project with a church or youth group or just have some personal refresh time.

Surfside Christian Retreat

If you are looking for a private facility right on the beach, Surfside Christian Retreat would fit your needs. This family owned and operated retreat only hosts one group at a time and can sleep up to 76 people in 3 dorm rooms plus 3 staff rooms. Located on the west end of the beaches it is a quiet place away from the crowds. Facilities include kitchen, dining area, pool and furnished meeting room. You can choose to cook or have catering for your group. Staff rooms are available for families to rent during the off season.

First Baptist Church

Just 1/3 block from the beach is the Retreat at First Baptist Church on Cobb Road. They have 100 beds in their 4 dorm rooms plus a couple of guest houses. They will host 1-4 groups at a time with a minimum group size of 20. Facilities include kitchen, dining room, meeting rooms, pool, volleyball, basketball, shuffleboard and horse shoes. If your group doesn’t have a cook, they offer meals as well.

Noah's Ark Beach Ministry

If you’d like to do a service project, check out Noah’s Ark Beach Ministry. Between their retreat house and the three dorms, they can host groups of 15-150 people. In the summer they hold 12 free family friendly musical shows a week. Groups are encouraged to attend one concert a night and join in on their beach ministry picking up trash and inviting visitors on the beach to come to the concerts. Some groups also volunteer at the Ark or a local nursing home or rescue mission. In the winter, Noah’s Ark has a completely different ministry offering classes and activities for snowbirds.

Laguna Beach Christian Retreat

By far the largest retreat in the area is Laguna Beach Christian Retreat. They have a main campus which sleeps over 1000, a cottage area, a dorm area by the cottages and a gulf front campus. All in all there are over 8 acres with accommodations ranging from hotel type rooms that sleep as few as two to cottages to dorms the largest of which sleeps 288. If you have a large group, this is the place to go. They have 13 pools, 12 commercial kitchens and 20 meeting rooms. Their largest chapel seats 700. Catering is optional for some of their facilities and required at others. Unlike the other retreats in the area, they have no minimum group size, so families can easily stay there.

St Andrews State Park

If you prefer camping, St Andrews State Park has a primitive camping area which is available for small non-profit organized groups. Campers can continue to enjoy the beaches and park facilities after it closes to the public at sunset each day.

Large Single Family Homes

Finally if you have a fairly small group, you may wish to consider renting a large single family home. There are a number of places that sleep 12-20 people. Choosing a home in a residential area or on the west end of the beaches will give you a nice quiet atmosphere suitable for a retreat.
