This 900,000 square foot retail and entertainment complex is developed and managed by Simon Property Group, Inc. It is anchored by Target, Dillard’s and JC Penney. While Target opened in October 2006 kicking off phase 1, the official grand opening was held on February 14, 2008 with eighteen new stores opening. Within six months this mall has already grown to over one hundred stores and restaurants.

Pier ParkEntering Pier Park at the Front Beach Road entrance you will find four restaurants, Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville, Back Porch Seafood and Oyster House, Reggae J’s Island Grill, and Guy Harvey’s Island Grill along with Ron Jon Surf Shop overlooking the Gulf of Mexico.

Margaritaville has both indoor and outdoor seating giving great views of the Gulf. After dinner it transforms to a night club with live bands and dancing. We have yet to check this restaurant out personally, but every time we went by it was very busy. Reggae J’s also has live entertainment and outdoor seating…on the roof…for spectacular views of the Gulf of Mexico.

As you continue down the Boardwalk, enjoy the downtown feel of the store fronts which are right along the sidewalk. There is limited parking in front of the stores, but plenty of parking in the many surrounding parking lots. Young kids will enjoy catching the little train shuttle.

Train Shuttle at Pier Park

There are a variety of stores and restaurants, both national chains and local shops, to enjoy at Pier Park.

  • Del Sol features products that change from black and white to color in the sun.
  • As Seen on TV has more products than I ever would have expected.
  • Lids features hats and offers custom embroidery.
  • Peacefrogs has and actual VW Bug in the store.
  • Kilwin's has chocolates, ice cream and more to tempt every sweet tooth.
  • Polka Dots has toys that are not found at your average department store.
  • Beach Scene has thousands of swim suits.
  • Aéropostale, Hollister and American Eagle offer clothing for teens.
  • Mirror Maze & Lazer Craze are fun and unique things to try.

Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge, famous for the many Nashville stars that got a start performing there is sure to draw it more aspiring musicians. There are several order at the counter (not to be confused with fast food) dining establishments as well. We enjoyed the burgers and fresh fries at Five Guys Famous Burgers and Fries. Bootleg Barbeque is locally owned and features barbeque sandwiches with the sauce on the side. Hana Japan offers both stir fried dishes and sushi. For those who must have their morning coffee, Starbucks is at the far end of the Boardwalk near the Theatre Quad.

Pier Park Volleyball Court and TheaterBeyond the Boardwalk is the Theater Quad. The 1964 Allan Herschell Carousel that once was a part of the Miracle Strip Amusement Park has been restored and moved to Pier Park. Nearby are a couple of carnival or fair type diversions the Coconut Climb and the Super Bungee. I'm not sure if these are permanant or seasonal, but I think there will always be some type of entertainment in the area. Additionally, you can enjoy the sand volleyball court or the Grand Theatre. This state of the art theater features sixteen screens with stadium seating, digital sound, and high back rocker seats. Our kids loved the reclining seats. Families with young children will appreciate the Tuesday BYOB (Bring Your Own Baby) matinees. They also offer private screenings for businesses and groups.

Pier Park StoresAt the North end of Pier Park is Town Center which consists of many more shops with a wonderful downtown feel surrounded by the three anchor stores. Right along Panama City Beach Parkway, you’ll also find Longhorn Steakhouse, Olive Garden and Panera Bread. Not too far behind them are Target and Borders.

Whether you’re looking for gifts or souvenirs, clothing or beachwear, accessories or shoes, books or jewelry, restaurants or entertainment, or just looking to hang out or window shop, we think you’ll agree that Pier Park is a great place to spend the day.
