Ride the Virtual Roller Coaster and
Visit the Odditorium at Ripley's

Ripley's Believe It or Not
The virtual roller coaster known as Ripley’s 4D Moving Theater is an adventure worth trying. Ripley’s Believe It or Not! is located on Front Beach Road in a building shaped like a giant ship. The theater price includes two movies that are about five minutes each and the movies vary from day to day. I thought the price was comparable to riding a couple of roller coasters at a carnival. The museum and movie combo package offers savings over buying the tickets separately.

When you enter the theater find a seat, buckle up and put on the 3D glasses. Camel Bone CarvingThe combination of the 3D movie and the seat moving and air blowing makes you feel like you really are riding a roller coaster. Since I tend to get motion sickness, I was glad to find out they will stop your seat if you just raise your hand. Tall Guy at Ripley's Believer It or NotThe ride wasn’t too rough for me, but I did raise my hand toward the end just to see how quickly they stopped your seat. It wasn’t instantaneous, but it was pretty quick. I was able to enjoy the balance of the Haunted Mine 3D movie from a still chair.

Unusual Ability at Ripley'sIf you enjoy finding unusual things in the Guinness Book of World Records, you’ll really enjoy the variety of displays in the museum. Robert Ripley was a world traveler who loved to seek out odd and unusual artifacts, customs and stories. The displays contain a huge variety of things…from historical items to things like the worlds smallest radio to animal oddities and freaks of nature to people with unusual abilities to optical illusions.

Jade Dragon Ship at Ripley'sThere are also numerous works of art including a jade dragon ship, a camel bone carving, a model of a coliseum made of matchsticks and flowers made of fish scales. The section on human oddities includes a life size figure of Robert Wadlow, the world’s tallest man.

Display of a Submission to Mr. RipleyAnother large section of the museum is devoted to photos and letters about unusual things that were submitted to Mr. Ripley from people everywhere. Each letter is marked with the date he used them in his popular Believer It or Not! cartoon series.

Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum or “Odditorium” and the virtual roller coaster can be a fun family outing. There are some interactive displays, but not a lot, so we would recommend it for families with older children…at least old enough to enjoy reading.
