Water Sports of All Sorts
Water sports in Panama City Beach could keep you busy for days. There are so many options. The question is where do you want to be in relationship to the water? Under the Water If you like underwater exploration you’ve come to the right place. Panama City Beach is North Florida’s number one diving area. Exotic sea life can be seen at natural reefs as well as the more than 50 artificial reefs and many historical wrecks. Shell Island and the jetties in St. Andrews State Park are both popular places for scuba diving and snorkeling. Above the Water Okay, it’s not completely above water, because you have to get into a boat first, but parasailing offers such a peaceful ride and wonderful views. For a little more fun ask to get dipped in the water during your ride.
In the Water Enjoy water sports such as swimming, surfing and boogie boarding right in the beautiful waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Average water temperature in Panama City Beach is in the 80’s all summer long. Make sure you know the flag warning system. Green, Yellow & Red indicate low, medium and high hazard. Double Red means the water is closed. Purple indicates marine pests such as jellyfish are present. On the Water If you’d rather keep your head above water, jet skis or wave runners can be a lot of fun. There are several rental places right on the beach. If you are 14-21 you will need a boaters safety education completion certificate if you wish to ride alone. They can be obtained at most jet ski rental places for a nominal fee.
If you like a slower pace a boat rental could be just the thing. Enjoy exploring Shell Island and St. Andrew Bay. Perhaps you will even spot dolphins and sea turtles! There are a variety of watercraft available for rent in the area. St. Andrews State Park has kayaks. Adventures At Sea located at the intersection of Thomas Drive and North Lagoon Drive offers Banana Boat rides as well as renting many kinds of watercraft. Their pontoon boats are handicap accessible. Their sailboat rentals include free lessons.
Near the Water What better place to work on your tan than right on the beautiful white sand beaches. If you prefer, there are several places along the beach that rent beach chairs and umbrellas for your sunbathing pleasure.
For something a little more active, what could be more fun than collecting sea shells and building sand castles. If you bring a strong light out at night, sometimes you can find crabs too. In the evening a romantic walk on the beach at sunset is sure to be lovely. Bring your camera to capture some great pictures to bring home.
